In partnership with a TOP 5 Mobile Game Publisher in the West, we are in the early stages of development on an ambitious, unannounced, cross-platform Strategy/MMO title.

We are lookgin for an experienced Senior Unity VFX Artist to join our team based in Prague or Bratislava on a on-site or hybrid basis. 

What will you do?

You’ll be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality real-time visual effects that elevate the player experience, set the creative bar for VFX across the project, and support partner studio production. Working closely with technical artists, engineers, and designers, you will drive VFX innovation, solve complex artistic and technical challenges, and ensure consistent quality across all target platforms.

• Design & Implementation: Establish VFX standards and lead early creative exploration for high-priority features and cosmetics, then hand off to partner studios with clear direction.
• Technical Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve complex artistic and technical VFX challenges; develop new techniques and leverage Unity’s VFX systems to push visual quality.
• Partner Studio Guidance: Provide actionable, hands-on feedback to partner studios — Including visual direction and annotated reviews
• Collaboration: Work closely with Core Tech and Technical Art teams to optimise VFX assets and integrate effects cleanly within the rendering pipeline.
• Best Practices: Conduct VFX reviews, pair-work sessions, and mentoring to uphold quality standards and shared best practices across the team.
• Performance & Optimisation: Profile and optimise real-time VFX, ensuring smooth performance across mobile, PC, and console.
• Process Improvement: Propose and implement workflow, pipeline, and tooling improvements to enhance VFX development efficiency.
• Onboarding & Mentorship: Assist in onboarding and training new VFX artists, helping them ramp up on tools, standards, and project conventions.
• Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with designers, engineers, and producers to evaluate technical and creative solutions that align with project goals.

 
What are we looking for?

• 5+ years of professional VFX experience in game development, with a strong focus on real-time effects in Unity.
• Deep mastery of VFX fundamentals: timing, colour, composition, motion, and readability across varied art styles.
• Strong experience with Unity VFX Graph, Shuriken Particle System, and Shader Graph for effect authoring.
• Proven ability to establish and uphold VFX quality bars, including partner studio oversight.
  Strong creative vision combined with the flexibility to execute within a given art direction.
• Solid understanding of performance optimisation techniques for real-time VFX on multiple platforms.
• Experience working in agile development environments (Scrum, Kanban).
• Proficiency with version control (Git/Perforce), build tools, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
• Active English speaker B2 and above.

Earn Bonus Points for:

• Experience with HLSL and custom shader authoring for VFX elements.
• Background in AAA stylised action or competitive PVP games.
• Experience managing or directing external partner studios.
• Familiarity with Houdini or other procedural VFX toolchains for effect development.
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices as applied to VFX (contrast, motion sensitivity).
• Experience developing Unity editor tooling or custom inspectors to support VFX workflows.
